WEEK 22: I AM RESILIENT –
Wouldn’t it be great if we could create a carefree world for our kids, free from any trials or trouble? Unfortunately, that is not realistic, nor will it prepare them for the even greater challenges that might await them in adulthood. If we want our kids to thrive, even when faced with difficulties, they must build their resilience.
If we cultivate our kids’ emotional resilience, they can be adaptable in situations that are different, hard, or even scary. We cannot always protect them from hardship, but we can help them to respond with confidence in their ability to handle difficult situations.
This week the Puppet Kids experience a variety of big emotions such as
- fear during a fire drill
- worry over a test
- sadness over a friend moving
- concern over a substitute teacher who does things differently than their regular routine.
They learn some strategies to address their uncomfortable feelings and also learn to reframe the situations, allowing them to move forward with courage, optimism, empathy, and a new perspective.
