Setting and Reaching Goals:
Making New Year’s resolutions is a common tradition. Though filled with good intentions, these often fall away, even after an enthusiastic start. We can help our kids learn the skill of goal-setting, along with the critical planning and monitoring components, so that they can successfully reach their goals.
Goal-setting teaches children to take responsibility for their own behaviors and learning. It promotes optimism and grit as they develop a lifelong habit of attaining desired goals.
This week the Puppet Pals pinpoint some goals for themselves. Some want to learn a new skill, several want to be more organized and others want to improve a character trait like patience, thoughtfulness, or being a better friend. In order to reach a goal successfully, they need to come up with a plan, which might involve asking for help. Make sure you play the Reaching Goals song at the end of the week to reinforce what they learned.
In the weeks to come, kids will learn the importance of a Growth Mindset, Perseverance, and Motivation in reaching goals.
