Young children are learning to follow the rules at home and school under adult supervision. Once children have learned expectations, the next step is to teach the importance of integrity; which is doing the right thing, even when it’s hard or no one is looking. I always get goosebumps when I observe a child making a choice to be honest, fair, or kind all on their own. These moments let us know that the character skills we are trying to instill in our children are hitting the mark.
This week the puppet kids demonstrate integrity and are praised for the choices they make in a variety of scenarios such as:
- Telling the truth
- Playing fair
- Admitting when they are wrong
- Resisting taking something that doesn’t belong to them
- Refraining from embarrassing a friend
These situations might not arise on a daily basis, but watching these videos will help your children to learn the meaning of integrity in concrete ways. It will hopefully guide them in making responsible and caring choices when faced with similar dilemmas.
This week of lessons includes four scenario videos that you can watch with your students Monday through Thursday, with follow-up questions for class discussions. Kids can join Peter Leader on Friday, helping the Puppet Pals in the game show What Would A Leader Do.
This week also includes a Simple Summary video in Spanish to help those who are developing simple language skills, while focusing on the target social-emotional skill of the week.
