FRIENDSHIP SKILLS
Building strong friendships is a skill that will profoundly impact a child’s overall well-being. It can positively affect their self-esteem, school performance, and their physical and mental health. While some kids are more social by nature, being a good friend is a skill that all children need to be taught.
There are many qualities that make a good friend and we will explore many of these throughout our lessons. This week, the Puppet Kids are learning about some concrete behaviors that good friends exhibit:
- Learning about a friend by asking questions
- Including others by inviting them to play or work together
- Encouraging and helping others
- Celebrating the successes of a friend
This week of lessons includes four scenario videos that you can watch with your students Monday through Thursday with follow-up questions for class discussions. The bonus video for Friday is the song “Be A Good Friend” which reinforces the target skill. Students can sing along and you can revisit the song often.
Each week also includes a Simple Summary video in both English and Spanish. These are geared toward PreK students or those developing simple language skills while focusing on the target social-emotional skill of the week.
