Self-Management — Managing Big Emotions
We all experience big emotions sometimes. Self-regulation is the ability to manage those feelings so they don’t negatively impact our day-to-day life. Young children are just learning how to handle those overwhelming feelings. When they have nurturing adults to guide them in this process, they will eventually learn socially acceptable ways to express and deal with their emotions.
Last week we focused on identifying and validating our children’s emotions. Now we will give them some strategies to work through those emotions more effectively.
This week the Puppet Pals are dealing with the uncomfortable feelings of frustration, disappointment, anxiety, and fatigue. They try out a different strategy each day to manage their feelings, reframe the triggering event or proactively develop habits that will build their resilience.
