Children are faced with countless choices every day, from what to play and with whom, to deciding whether to follow their heart or the crowd. The stakes get higher and the decisions get harder as they get older, so teaching children how to make wise and caring decisions at an early age is important.
Kids are often not aware of the choices available to them in a given situation. Adults can help point out possible options as a child thinks about the responsible or kind thing to do. Young children are naturally self-focused and live in the moment, so it helps to ask probing questions to help them think about consequences like:
- If you take that toy away, how might the other person feel?
- If you stay up late playing, how might you feel in the morning?
This week the Puppet Kids are in a variety of situations with decisions to be made. They learn to slow down and think about choices that are healthy, positive and consider others’ feelings as well as their own. As your kids watch these videos, it will help them to think about how to make wise choices in their own lives.
This week of lessons includes four scenario videos that you can watch with your students Monday through Thursday, with follow-up questions for class discussions. Kids can sing along with the Puppet Pals on Friday with the rap, Choices, Choices, which reinforces the target skill of the week.
This week also includes a Simple Summary video in Spanish to help those who are developing simple language skills, while focusing on the target social-emotional skill of the week.
