I can’t imagine teaching SEL without the help of the Puppet Pals. Each morning we start our day with a short, relatable, and engaging video from the Puppet Pals. Each week there is a theme that is easy to weave into daily discussions and carry forward throughout the year. When I taught with Colleen, a visit from the Puppet Pals was always a favorite with my first graders- and it has transferred so well into what feels like a daily visit through a short video. I love hearing 6-year-olds say things like “I was feeling really upset, but then I pressed the pause button” or “the more you do it the better you get!” I love that each video ends with “that’s what leaders do!” A Little SEL has truly been transformational in giving me a framework for teaching SEL and I love that my whole team is watching the same videos at the same time, so we can reinforce positive behaviors when we see leaders from each other’s classrooms in common places like recess, lunch, and the hallways.
