Week 18: Social Awareness: Thinking of others:
Being considerate requires taking the time to be mindful of others. What might it be like to walk in their shoes? This is a skill that many adults have struggled with lately, so how much harder it might be for our kids. We can begin to make our world a kinder, friendlier place by teaching our children the skill of thinking of others.
It starts by paying attention to someone and really seeing them, beyond that surface first impression. This rarely happens when we are rushed, distracted or absorbed with our own concerns.
This week the Puppet Kids learn to slow down and ask a few key questions to better understand their classmates.
- What might they be feeling?
- What might they need?
- How can I help?
Discovering the answers to these questions gives kids a better understanding of others, and how to be a part of the solution instead of possibly adding to the problem. As kids watch the puppets in a variety of scenarios, it will give them some tools to expand their perspective, so they can respond in more empathetic ways.
